Are You Breaking These Unwrittent Gym Rules?

The gym can be an intimidating place. After all, you may feel as though you are the smallest, most unfit person there and this alone can be enough to knock your confidence. You have to remember that even though you are not fit right now, you are making the right step to getting there and this is a great way to motivate yourself. If you are going to the gym for the first time, however, then make sure that you don’t break these top gym rules.

Read the Rules

This may seem obvious but you need to take the time to read the rules that are at your gym. They are there for a reason and if you are not sure about something then make sure that you chat with a staff member. What’s okay for one gym may not be okay for another, for example, using chalk may be okay at one gym but not another. Some gyms may be okay with you walking around barefoot, but others may not be.

Wipe Down Equipment

Cleanliness should be a given when you use the equipment. For this reason, you really don’t want to leave behind a sweat puddle on the bench when you leave. It helps to have a towel with you so you can wipe down the surfaces and so that you can also wipe yourself down as well. Some facilities will even come with a bottle of disinfectant that you can use to get the equipment super clean every single time.

Put Things Away

It doesn’t matter what exercise you are doing, because you should always put everything back right where you found it. Don’t wait until you have finished your workout, always put things away as you go along because this could really help other people out. For example if someone is waiting to use something then you have to make sure that you give them the chance. If you are using weights, also make sure that you put them back in the right order because gym-goers hate things like this.

Warm-Ups and Stretching

Most gyms should be clear about where you can stretch or even warm-up. Most of the time there will be mats or even rolls dotted around. You can easily go to these areas if you want to get ready for your workout and they are designated for that purpose as well. Even so, some people choose to stretch or warm-up right in the middle of the gym and this is inconvenient for everyone. Don’t be that person, and always make sure that you ask someone if you are not sure about something.

Of course, going to the gym is nothing to be intimidated about and when you put the work in, you can really get a great result out of your workout and you can also get the results that you need as well. Having a gym buddy can help a lot if you are new to the gym and you’d be surprised at how easy it is for you to get the body you want without the stress.
