Your One Week Detox Plan

If you’ve been on a bit of a bender lately with booze and food and you want to give your body a “cleanse”/“detox” then this is the perfect thing for you to read.

You’re going to learn how to detox your body WITHOUT spending money on detox teas or special cleansing supplements that don’t really work and instead follow the proven methods that will actually help your body “cleanse”.

So in a nutshell here’s what you need to do.

Sweat

Sweating helps release toxins that are in your body and that have been stored up in your fat tissue. When you start exercising and sweating you’re “cleaning” your body and helping it move out all the bad stuff that’s been sitting in your cells.

How to sweat

Do weight training/cardio followed by a sauna. When you exercise before you jump in a sauna your heart rate is already elevated and you’re already slightly sweating. After getting in a sauna straight afterwards this is going to allow the process to continue and also allow you to sweat more in a shorter amount of time.

Sidenote: KEEP HYDRATED! Drink lots of water during your workout, before your sauna and after you finish your sauna. The last thing you want to do is to pass out.

Practice Intermittent Fasting

Going for long periods of not eating is going to help your body switch from burning carbs to burning fat and from what you’ve read above when you are able to burn more fat you’re also burning up toxins in your body. I recommend doing 16 hours of Intermittent Fasting until you get used to it.

Cut out alcohol

OMG no alcohol for a week? That’s right. You know alcohol is literally poison for your body and while I’m not telling you that you should give it up completely (although it might be a good idea) you should avoid all alcoholic drinks for a week.

Just for safe measures make it two 😉

How To Cut Out Alcohol

  • Avoid all social activities at night and hang out with your friends for breakfast
  • Throw away any alcohol you have in your house
  • Chill out on the weekend instead of going out and being tempted

Exercise

You should already be exercising but if you’ve been lazy for the last few weeks give this a good go for the next seven days and exercise every day. This doesn’t just have to be weights and cardio but make sure you’re doing something active every day to keep your body moving and feeling good.

Types Of Exercise

  • Weights
  • Cardio
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Mountain biking
  • Ballroom dancing
  • Sport
  • Anything else that moves your body

Cut Out Stimulants

No coffee, no pre-workouts, no cocaine. Don’t take anything that is putting your body into a stressed state or that will stimulate you. This really hurts because I love my coffee but taking a week off from it is the perfect way to give your body a reset. When you start taking these stimulants again you will feel like Superman. If you can’t give up the coffee because you “need it” just cut back on it. If you’re a 2 a day drinker, cut it back to one a day. Reducing the amount you drink is still a good idea.

How to cut stimulants

Swap your coffee for a decaf

Swap your pre-workout for some four stigmatic mushroom coffee or listen to pump up music before a workout

Store your coke in a safe and give someone the key

Go To Sleep Earlier

This last one is super important and a lot of people don’t give it as much weight as it’s needed. Since you’re cutting away a lot of the bad stuff during this week and taking better care of your body then sleep is a major factor in this. If you’re going to bed past 10 pm then you’re doing yourself a disservice because that’s when the best time your body is ready to recover. It’s between 10 pm and 2 am and if you miss this crucial time then you’re robbing yourself of muscle recovery, fat loss and body recovery. Aim to get to bed around 10 am and get a solid 8 hours sleep.

How to sleep earlier

  • Stop watching reruns of your favourite show
  • Stop social messaging people or stalking people on Instagram
  • Set an alarm at 9:30 to remind you that you need to go to bed in 30 minutes.

Eat Clean

While I’m not a big advocate of eating clean 24/7  for the rest of your life because that’s just not sustainable and I’m also a fat kid at heart, It is good to cut a lot of the crappy food that’s been sneaking into your diet. Stick to foods that have no added sugar, that don’t contain loads of sodium, that aren’t processed. So basically eat as strict as possible for this coming week.

How To Eat Clean

  1. Go to your pantry and throw out all temptations

  2. Eat these foods:
Protein: Protein powder, eggs, dairy, meat, fish,
Carbs: oats, potatoes (white, sweet, purple etc), fruit, beans and legumes
Fats: Nuts, seeds, dairy, avocado, oils (not processed)
Vegetables: as much of these as you can!
  3. No take away food (unless it’s a healthy meal delivery service)

No foods that have sugar added

What to drink:

  • Water
  • Decaffeinated coffee
  • Water
  • Herbal Teas
  • Water

That’s It?

Are you feeling a bit robbed at the moment? You know all of these things, but the questions is are you following them as well as you should be. Cutting out things that have a negative impact on your body is what’s going to get you the best results for a “detox”. Tea’s and supplements aren’t needed and are more of a placebo effect more than anything else.

Get back to the basics put a reset on your body and watch how good you’re going to feel.
